- In spite of hitting the ground running by more than doubling its sales figures for its second month in the market, the Toyota Prius Prime failed to raise the average fuel economy in the US at the end of last year.According to a study from the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute via Automotive News, the sales-weighted fuel economy in the country for 2016 was at its lowest in October and December, with both months rated at 24.9mpg.The average sales-based fuel economy in the country had been growing steadily from 2008 to 2013, but has more or less flat-lined since 2014.
