"frontstretch" : Questions After The 2017 Daytona 500

collected by :John Max

This was up there with the 2012 Daytona 500 when it came to just how crazy it was looking back. The move he made to get around Kyle Larson in Turn 2 of the final lap was simply experience trumping exuberance. This weekend coming up will be the unofficial first race of the season; outside of points, what happens in Daytona largely stays in Daytona. Unlike Martin Truex Jr., Elliott or even Larson, Busch was able to hold on to just enough fuel to win a Daytona 500. Michael McDowell ran top five for most of the final stage and ended up 15th, matching his 500 result last year.

Brian France warns Daytona 500 field about blocking
NASCAR chairman Brian France issued a stern warning to drivers about blocking during the pre-race meeting for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Blocking caused multiple accidents in the Truck Series and Xfinity Series season openers at Daytona earlier this week. "What I want you to think about, we realize blocking is part of racing," France told the drivers. I don't often make those statement, but I think it is important today as we go into our most important event and to make that really clear to our competitors." There have been a couple of incidents in which blocking has caused accidents, but no complaints about NASCAR making any calls on it -- there is no rule against blocking.

78 team finished second in last year's Daytona 500 by one-hundredth of a second, the closest margin of victory in Daytona 500 history"It was a roller coaster of a Daytona 500," said Truex. The second race of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season is the March 5 (next Sunday) Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500 at Altanta Motor Speedway. "Our position might have appeared to be bleak early in the race but we kept fighting to the end with a damaged race car that was a handful to drive. The stars aligned once again for Martin Truex Jr. and Furniture Row Racing's No. It's just nice settling in with everybody on the team, my spotter Rick Carelli, working more with Chris (Gayle, crew chief) and into the role with these cars."Kurt Busch won the crash-marred Daytona 500.
