The Toyota 86 860 Special Edition hits US dealers later this month. Starting at the end of March, though, Toyota will offer a special edition trim that's just a touch more fancy. Inside the 860 Special Edition, buyers will be treated to a dark interior with contrasting orange stitching, heated leather seats, push-button start, dual-zone HVAC and a new 4.2-inch TFT screen in the gauge cluster. There was probably a bit more speed to be had, but the car felt a little light on its feet.

The most significant change is the 860 Special Edition, a top-end model that gains high-end features not found on standard versions of the car. The center console is home to a unique placard that signifies this 860 Special Edition's exclusivity. The 860 Special Edition will be offered in two colors: Halo White and Supernova Orange, the latter of which is a visually arresting hue that comes paired with black stripes. Now that's changing with the arrival of the 2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition. With the demise of Toyota's hipster brand, the former Scion FR-S sports coupe switched flat-brim hats, becoming the Toyota 86 for the 2017 model year. One hangover of its Scion days, however, was that the 86 was offered in only one trim level. Besides the visuals, the 860 Special Edition also brings a push-button ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, and a larger TFT screen in the instrument cluster that includes g-meter and lap-timer functions in addition to trip information. The interior is black leather with orange contrast stitching on the seats, dash, door panels, steering wheel, handbrake, and shift boot.
