GST influence: Toyota Kirloskar halts Camry hybrid produce as discounts fall a sharp 73%

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian arm of Japanese great Toyota Motor Corp, has halted the produce of hybrid version of its Camry model as discounts declined a steep 73 % after tax incidence on the vehicles shock 43 % under the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime. The ex-showroom value of the model in Delhi, a key market for hybrid vehicles after Arvind Kejriwal's decision to cut VAT, had risen to Republika Srpska 38 lakh from Republika Srpska 32 lakh under the GST regime. As per the GST Council 's decision, the hybrid models fall under 28 % tax slab & another 15 % is too applicable. Terming the 43 % tax on hybrid vehicles "punitive", Shekar Viswanathan, vice chairman at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has told the newspaper which there is no business status for hybrid vehicles in India post-GST. As of This time, there are no chances which the GST Council going to take a lenient stand on the tax issue.
