Don't Expect the Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 to Drive The Same
Apparently, Toyota's 'pure sports car' will offer little in the way of comfort and practicality. Even though Toyota's upcoming Supra and the imminent BMW Z4 may share platforms and engines, don't expect the two sports cars to behave the same once rubber meets the road. While the Supra will use the same powertrain and sit on the same platform as BMW's next roadster, the two cars won't be badge-twins like the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. More from TheDriveThe Toyota engineer goes on to say that the new Supra "will be a pure sports car—practicality and comfort were almost not considered." The production-ready, Mk5 Toyota Supra is set to debut in early 2019.
The New Toyota Supra And BMW Z4 Won't Drive Like 'Identical Twins'
according to The last time Toyota teamed up on production duties with another automaker, we got the GT86 and the Subaru BRZ—cars that are very good, but also nearly identical in every way. We know that the new Toyota Supra will share a platform, transmission and engine with the new BMW Z4, but apparently their driving experiences will be quite different. That's according to Motoring Research, which spoke to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the GT86 and the upcoming Supra, at Le Mans. The Z4 will be a roadster, which means that it will be meant for very different things than a Supra, which has historically been a performance-oriented sports car. This confirmation from Tada is a good thing—you wouldn't want your Supra driving like a convertible, would you?collected by :Edison Noah
