Confirmed: Toyota Supra Will Contest NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2019

The upcoming two-door sports car will replace the Camry in the American stock car racing championship. Toyota confirmed that its all-new sports car, the long-awaited Toyota Supra, will debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the beginning of the 2019 racing season. "We're confident Calty and TRD have developed another race car, Supra, that is capable of winning races and championships. "When you talk Toyota and cool cars, Supra is the first thing that comes to mind for many auto enthusiasts," said Ed Laukes, group vice president of Toyota Division Marketing. We can only imagine that we will see official liveries, sponsors, and more of the new NASCAR Toyota Supra as its official debut date of February 16, 2019 nears.

Toyota is debuting the production Supra at Goodwood

Way, way back in March at the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota teased the world with the racing concept version of its new Supra. Naturally, we were pretty excited, but what we really wanted was the production version of the car. Apparently, we'll be getting our first look at just that next week during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new Supra is a car that's had an incredibly long gestation period and which will either blow enthusiasts' minds or leave them disappointed and clamoring for a keyboard on which to write long screeds in forums. Toyota Europe let slip the news that it would have a production Supra at Goodwood via its Twitter account and posted an image of a camouflaged car with it.

Watch the Toyota Supra make its Goodwood debut

The Toyota Supra is ready to roll, even if we have to stare at a camouflaged body for a little while longer. Toyota brought the latest prototype of its new Supra to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week. There's some inspiration from the Toyota FT-1 concept, and there's likely to be something shared with the upcoming BMW Z4 revival, since the two vehicles share the same chassis. Toyota already said that the Supra will rely on a straight-six gas engine, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive. Toyota expects the 2020 Supra to make it to dealerships "during the first half of 2019."
