The new Toyota Supra will go racing … but not where anyone expected

The revived Toyota Supra is one of the most hyped car launches of the decade, but no one could have predicted this. The new Supra will race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series beginning with the season-opening race in Daytona, Florida, on February 16, 2019. The Toyota Supra has quite a racing pedigree, but this icon of Japanese performance has always been more Fast and the Furious than Ricky Bobby. It has never had any previous association with NASCAR; Toyota has only been racing since 2007, long after the Supra went out of production. Toyota didn't relate any technical details, but racing rules mean the Supra will feature a NASCAR-specific V8 engine and chassis design.

Don't Expect the Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 to Drive The Same

Apparently, Toyota's 'pure sports car' will offer little in the way of comfort and practicality. Even though Toyota's upcoming Supra and the imminent BMW Z4 may share platforms and engines, don't expect the two sports cars to behave the same once rubber meets the road. While the Supra will use the same powertrain and sit on the same platform as BMW's next roadster, the two cars won't be badge-twins like the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. More from TheDriveThe Toyota engineer goes on to say that the new Supra "will be a pure sports car—practicality and comfort were almost not considered." The production-ready, Mk5 Toyota Supra is set to debut in early 2019.

Toyota Supra To Rival Camaro In NASCAR Xfinity

according to Although the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 hasn't been the breakout star the brand hoped for in the NASCAR Cup Series, the racer has been competitive in the Xfinity series. Toyota will introduce the Supra NASCAR Xfinity racer for 2019, the automaker announced last week. Chevrolet replaced the SS NASCAR racer with the Camaro ZL1 last year, though drivers have begun to recognize the racer's downfalls. In the Xfinity series, however, the Chevrolet Camaro has consistently placed on the podium and won its races. Toyota will also reveal the production Supra at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.
